Higher Education
Abram currently serves as an Associate Professor in the Radio-Television-Film department at Austin Community College, where he leads the department's PTECH Program (Pathways in Technology) and teaches courses in: digital cinematography (multi-cam), film-style production (single-cam), lighting, audio, editing, scriptwriting, cinema studies, live switching, live-streaming, & digital media workflows.
Teaching Style
Abram's teaching style is approachable & student-centered, while emphasizing current industry practices and community integration. He believes in instilling students with a rock-solid foundation in technical skills (digital cinematography, professional audio, 3-point and cross-key lighting) so that they're able to make informed decisions that allow them bring their own creative visions to fruition. He strongly encourages community integrated student projects, in order to ensure that students are building portfolio work while learning, and also creating their networks of potential (local) clients.
Grants
Equitable and accessible audiovisual education is integral to Abram's teaching practices. This academic year he applied for (and was awarded) a $7,500 grant to create captioned, Open Educational Resource (OER) video modules for an introductory Film & Video Editing course. He has used these funds to hire college students to help write, shoot and edit these educational modules (coming Summer 2026). His goal being: make professional workflows in adobe premiere software accessible and digestible for college students nation-wide (in place of having to purchase a textbook), and give current RTF students paid professional experience.
Workshops & Instructional Initiatives
Abram has taught in English/Spanish as a high school teacher in Downtown Los Angeles at Options For Youth Charter School, as well as summer school for middle school ages at the Central American Resource Center.
Most recently he taught a 3-point lighting workshop at the ATPI Winter Conference in Austin, Texas (Association for Texas Photography Instructors).
This summer, he will begin teaching a series of "Directing the Documentary Interview" workshops for Precision Camera & Video.
